Bike2Work
Have you heard about this Government scheme to get cars off the roads? It's a multi-threaded thingie whereby you get some smelly, noxious cars off the road so reduce road accident statistics, get your population fitter and the Great Obese to slim down a bit thus lowering supermarket checkout queues, and stop the evaporation and ultimate implosion of the planet.
If you're very lucky your employer already operates the scheme, in which case at it's basic level you can buy a bike and equipment to the value of £1,000 for occasional travel to work and you pay for it by weekly or monthly deductions from your wages. The win is in the fact that you don't pay tax or NI on the amount, so you effectively get your bike and kit for around £500. Our John has already seen the scheme bear fruit as he took delivery of his bike2work Kona Kikapu Deluxe in December 2006, and Andy became the scheme's co-ordinator for his employers, a national recreational business.
So, what are you waiting for? Get stuck into your gaffer and tell him you want to participate. Do it tomorrow. Do it now! Get the right bike and use it to come out with us!
