List is subject to
alteration - i.e. not worth the Liquid Crystal it's written on.
Winter rides are gonna be tough, but they're for Mountain
Bikers, not leisure cyclists. If you join us, you have to realise that there's a
very clear distinction between somebody who likes to ride a mountain bike and a
Mountain Bike Rider. At least there is at MidAirCrisis. Play hard, hurt much.
And while we ALWAYS wait for the slowest woman/man, you won't get too much from
a ride without making a bit of an effort, and you'll just get on everyone else's
pointy bits. We do a lot of flat rides, mainly out of necessity as there aren't
many mountains in Newcastle. But when we do go to the hills, we are looking for
something you can't get from a can of Red Bull. Even on these flat rides,
winding up a bit of speed in the right place (or wrong!) can put a whole new
slant on an otherwise mundane "cycle ride", so expect most of us to want a good
blast every so often.
I've been prompted to say this because, since we launched the
Newcastle Mountain Bike Club last summer, interest has been pretty high in
terms of numbers of people getting in touch, but actual numbers turning out have
only been a fraction of that total, and I just can't understand why. And yet we
get people like Ian F who are prepared to travel crazy distances
just to ride with us. I really find it very tedious and extremely time consuming
answering e-mails once or many, many times when the sender seems to have no
intention of riding at all. Still, I suppose that's human nature -
inquisitiveness. But as an amateur psychologist I find it weird that anyone
would bother to find out about us without wanting to saddle up. I can't imagine
being trapped inside a body that never feels the tingle of adrenalin.
Oh heck, I ended up preaching again, and it was only a fixture
list when I started.
Keep watching and if you fancy a ride out with us, drop us a line here:
