The real adventures began in 2003 when five of us tackled the Great Glen
Route on the West Coast of Scotland. We stayed in a B&B at Fort Augustus for the
Easter weekend. Day One saw us riding out the back of Fort Augustus and up the
East side of Loch Ness to Inverness.
We were just entering the town to turn
south and return down the West side of the Loch when youngest member David
failed to lift the front of his Trek 4900 up a high kerb and spread himself all over the pavement and into a wall. Ouch. Double Ouch. He managed to get back
to Fort Augustus with a struggle after 70-odd hard miles and an horrendous
rainstorm a few miles out. But he decided he was in no fit state to ride
the second day, so I had to transport him around Loch Lochy by car on Day Two as
we acted as backup to the remaining three riders while they completed the 140
something mile figure-of-eight ride around the Lochs via Fort William. That was
a real bummer as the weather and the ride were both fantastic! He owes me...
