After serving as a young Cycle Speedway star in the late Eighties/early
Nineties,
Jason spent a long time riding alone around
Kielder Forest
after his riding pal lost interest. Then early in 2005 he attended the
Newcastle Cycle Speedway
Club reunion and discovered a few like-minded souls in Colin, John
and Terry. He dug out his Specialized FSR and came out for a couple of rides on
the rough stuff at
Chopwell Woods and
Thrunton Woods.
Here he is conquering The Slab at Dalbeattie on his
second visit - 2MB .mpg vid.

see Jay's Norco Friday May 12th 2005 - Jason set sail with a whole tribe of his buddies over
the water to Amsterdam for a modern-day stag do. The ferry left North Shields
about 2.00 and the drinking started about 2.01pm. (OK, I know it really started
the night before). Unsurprisingly, Jay intended to be in Hamsterley Forest to
support the Macmillan Cancer Relief Fund at the start of the third annual Great
Milk (stout) Ride which was flagged off at 10.00am on Sunday. The ferry was due to
dock about 9.30am on Sunday, but it wouldn't be docking anywhere near Hamsterley!
Would have been a bit of a rush on for the
Due on the ride regardless were those of us not witnessing the pollution of
the Dutch Capital: Michael, John and Terry. Dave was also going on the
teetotaller's cruise but wasn't expected to fancy a ride on a bike afterwards
and David had family commitments. So
there were only three of us supporting our favourite charity. Old Jakey is currently looking at buying a lightweight
cross country bike for the odd XC race with Andy. See how they get on later in
the year right here. On Saturday 6th August
Jason married Michelle. Pictures arriving shortly...
If you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big
surprise... is this a Kona Bear or a Jonah Bare?

That was enough for Jason, and a
day or two before the 2005 Easter trip to the
Seven Stanes Trails he ordered himself a new Kona Coiler Dee Lux after being impressed by
Terry's Kona Bear and David's '04 Coiler DL. He also loaded himself up with body
armour, clothing, hydration, tools and spares. That's one expensive initiation
into Mountain Biking, but he loved the ride and the bike so it's money well
spent. Like John, he's cursed with the ability to zoom up the steep stuff.
Bastard.
men, I reckon!
Roll your rodent on it to find out what kind of surprise Jason leaves in the
Woods.
