Midaircrisis Geordie Mountain Bikers update September 2006

As I've said somewhere else, we're a fairly diverse bunch and we'd love anyone who likes MTBs but would prefer a bit of company, no matter how sad company that might be, to enjoy the scenery and maybe even a laugh with/at us. It's a weight off your shoulders knowing that someone else may just be carrying that Allen key missing from your mini-tool. And rest assured, even if we leave you lying in a dyke somewhere for a while, unconscious and battered to bits, we NEVER go home until the last man is accounted for!

On the Great North Forest Ride (2005) our Dave was heard to mention a new bike again. Let's hope he gets one before one of those Oppo-Gender types gets the claws in too far! Us old marrieds have got them trained to accept our desperate and constant need for more and better hardware, but courtship poses much greater problems - this we know.

AND! Don't worry about your current bike, just in case my attitude to hardtails expressed elsewhere on this site has you wondering. We are definitely NOT chauvinistic about other people's bike choice. We ALL started the same way but simply changed our minds later. If you're happy with what you've got that's great, and all that counts - we'd just be happy for you to ride with us!

Andy buys a Kona Stinky!!! And we get ready for some learn-to-leap sessions! He reckons he's going to wean himself off Triathlons and just do run-and-ride events to give him more time to get out on the rocky stuff. With John also contemplating a sturdier mount, maybe a Kona Coiler, it looks like we'll soon be able to go anywhere, the rougher the better! And MidAirCrisis Team Kona is almost a reality.

Now he wants to sell it!!!!!!(March 2006) He's decided it's too evil for him so if you're after a bargain, hardly used but with some superficial top tube damage from something or other, get in touch.

Just heard from Dave! He's done another C2C trip with Dean but is currently nursing an injury. Definitely not ready to hang up his wheels yet, as I suspected would be the case. We're all looking forward to a nice slow ride some time soon!

March 2006 - Jason flogs his Norco!!! A short love affair now over.

May 2006 - MidAirCrisis due to help trailbuilders at Chopwell but fail to turn up for a variety of reasons.

June 2006 - SHOCK NEWS IS: - We're going to Kirroughtree on Sunday 11th June. Not so shocking, you may think, BUT! The REIVERS are going too!!! Don't know why coz it's as flat as Kate Moss to a Reiver, but they're going anyway! All welcome, if you fancy joining us just let us know, Kirroughtree is possibly the best overall MTB centre in the UK, so come and try it. See our previous visits here.

The Gollum (aka Terry) got a surprise call, completely out of the Blue, from old mate Chic Mackie up in Glasgow on Wednesday night (28th June). Why? To ask if Golly fancied competing in the European Cycle Speedway Veterans Championships, with rounds coming up at Leicester, Bury and POLAND (!) amongst others!!! After he'd picked himself up off the floor of the cave and come to his senses, he managed to croak "No" back up the wire, but how insane is that? Attempts to get Chic to come out in the Seven Stanes for some real cycling failed, so Scotland 1 - England 1. I don't think you'll be getting much more Cycle Speedway info from this site in future.

October 2006 We're having a small lull at the moment - John's got flu or sumat and Jay has a footballing son to accommodate on some Sundays. We're also awaiting the arrival of John's new Kona Kikapu Deluxe when he'll really want to be at those hills!

November 2006 - poor John is still waiting for delivery of his new Kona Kikapu Deluxe after what seems an age. He's getting it under the government's Ride to Work scheme, whereby any employer can set up a scheme for employees to buy a bike, to get to and from work on, but without the usual tax burdens. In other words, for half-price. Well worth the wait if you can persuade your employer to participate. Well done for pulling that off, John. I work for the flippin' government and can't even get them to do it!!!

November 14th 2006 - ze Kikapu eez heea!

December 2006 - Andy sold his Kona Stinky. Jason sold his Scott MC50 and his Specialized Sworks Epic. Jason bought a Canondale Jekyll 800. Andy bought a Scott Scale 40 hardtail.

January 2007 - Every bu**er but me has a new bike for 2007 - that's because I work for the Government who can't organise the GOVERNMENT's Ride2Work scheme!!! Stupid iriots.

February 2007 - MidAirCrisis welcomes an old pal as Gavin joins us for his first boring mountain bike session in Chopwell Woods. Will he be back???

May 2007 - Reivers hit a spot of reliability trouble and create a mutinous atmosphere which leads to one very surprising transfer.

June 2007 - Newcastle Mountain Bike Club is born from MidAirCrisis. Delivered by Derek, John and Terry at Dalby!

August 2007 - Eleven riders out for a midweek ride!

September 2007 - Three riders out for Sunday rides 2 weeks running! Johnny stuck in Middlesbrough! Lights are all the rage at NMBC! All new riders fall on first or second ride! AND 3 riders out only 3 times in a five weekend month!
BUT!!! Thursday Night rides continue to be very popular - even in total darkness!

November 2007 - Derek, Jason and John disappear from the ride scene. Newcastle comes tenth in MBR "Best Places to Live and Ride" listing for 2007!

January 2008 - Graham B and Mick H become the first NMBC members NOT to fall off on their first rides!

February 2008 - the regulars drift back in again, Derek recovers some health and fitness, Andy shows up at Jason's!

April 2008 - Speedian buys a new Stumpjumper Expert! But he won't ride it in the wet, and it's always wet!!! And he does The Slab at Dalbeattie on his old bike!

March 2008 - the MidAirCrisisMobile is born! Gollum buys a Minibus! Travel NMBC - Newcastle Mountain Business Class!

April 2008 - van is knackered, off the road!

April 2008 - Gollum takes out 2nd mortgage to repair the thing. Looks OK, costs a fortune. Could have had a gold-plated Whyte E-5 instead.

May 2008 - Gollum breaks rib again! Wild Boar Team Two in trouble - Craig vanishes, so 2 riders down!

It's not all good news, however, as the "free transport" of the past may be about to evaporate, for comfort's sake!
