With John moving house, Dave away testing caravan suspension, plus Dean and Michael saving themselves for bigger events there were only three of us on this MayDay ride 2004. Overcast, lightly drizzling weather kept us near home, and with Golly's injuries healing well but slowly it was flat ride time.
We started in The Burn at Wallsend, then up through Battle Hill to the Rising Sun Country Park, then on to see Jason's little buddies at Backworth (132KB .wmv vid) and into the Holywell Dene playground. This is great for little jump practice, with some neat little drops and jumps built by the locals.
Jason flat jumping 0.5MB .wmv vid. and uppy-downy 270KB .wmv
We played there for half an hour then continued through the Dene towards Whitley Bay. Out of the Dene onto the Bridleway to New Hartley, we rode past Delaval Hall onto the new Sustrans East Coast cycle path on the Dunes at Seaton Sluice (part of the new North Sea Cycle Route), then up a few miles to Blyth where we turned inland. Into the trees again and through East Cramlington Jungle (!) after a short eat stop. Funny how they always criticise Golly's navigation skills, just because we get off the beaten track now and again!
There was an opportunity for a bit of "fun" here, however, as someone or something has created the meanest set of downhill whoop-de-doos on the planet - look at this vid! (3.2MB .wmv)
On to Dudley where Jason picked up a puncture.
Arrived home about 3.30 after losing David outside the Freeman Hospital, in an area he's not familiar with. Jason and I split up and spent 10 minutes searching for him until I twigged I was carrying the wondrous Mobe. David must have followed a pigeon as he was already at home waiting for us! Anyway, a decent-paced 26 miler and we only got wet from the mud on the trails after very heavy overnight rain.
Have you Killed A BIKE THIEF TODAY?
