This was the most disappointing day of the weekend. Not only were we a man down due to strong ale and a long session, but Mabie had been devastated by wind damage and the trails put out of action for this and Forestry work. So the first hour was up, up, and up mainly on fire roads with little fun to be had. The locals were ignoring the taped-off sections and hitting the trees, but we followed the rules.

A bit further on, however, we reached payback time, and there was a fair amount of technical stuff to navigate.

The views were superb over the surrounding countryside, and from the spot just beyond "The Scorpion" where we stopped for lunch, we witnessed a truly incredible sight, a once-in-a-lifetime apparition. Thank goodness for digital cameras. And Scottish sheepdogs.
