In case you aren't aware of the word "delamination" with regard to brake pads, here's a short Winter's Tale by way of explanation.

You may or may not be aware that a few of us, especially this year (08) have been tempted by the prices of a certain brake pad supplier on the web and in the mags. From what I can tell, most if not all of the people who've tried these very well priced items have been, well, a little disappointed with the results.

In other words, we've discovered to our cost that more expensive items would almost certainly have proven cheaper in the long run, or even sooner. Why? Delamination. This is the usual type of failure of these pads, and I've suffered from them using both Avid Juicy and Hayes HFX-9 types. At least four other NMBC folk have had the same problem. So, for 2009 I'd stick my neck out and recommend that you don't allow yourself to be tempted by prices of half normal or less for this substandard rubbish. See pics below of my latest encounter. This one has been fitted to the back of my Trek Fuel EX-8 since 2nd November and has done three 20 mile rides. It's the last Superstar pad I'll ever use.

Pic 1 - it SHOULD look like this:

wholepad

Pic 2 - NOT like this:

notapad
