Major Ride List Midweek & Other Rides
Next up - PARTICULARLY FOR NEW MEMBERS OF NEWCASTLE MBC -
NEW RULE!!! Pearls of Wisdom from newly-appointed Ride Co-ordinator, Terry H, 21/10/2007
and re-affirmed August 2008 by NMBC Committee
ALL SUNDAY RIDES will now start from the Gollum's Cave in Holystone. This is to speed up the whole loading operation and ensure we get away on time. It's also about the only way we can reliably discover exactly who's coming and how much transport is needed for both bikes and bodies.
TRANSPORT
Once again transport is available BUT MAY BE LIMITED. There is no problem with the bikes as we can squeeze hundreds onto our trailer (ok, A FEW), but we may need more body transport, so if you have a car with seats it would be great if you could have it on standby, otherwise it could be left outside Terry's at Holystone or Asda's car park 'til you get back. If you use your car, the fuel costs can be shared, most people are only too willing to cough up a quid or so. PLEASE get in touch before Sunday if you can in case we need to lay on extra trucks. Tell me if you're coming. terry@midaircrisis.org.uk
NEW RIDERS NEED TO BE AWARE THAT FOR THE SUNDAY RIDES THEY NEED TO CARRY SOME SNACK FOOD AND DRINK AS WELL AS HELMET AND WATERPROOF COAT. SEE THIS LIST of "desirable items" which you may also like to consider, but aren't essential. It#s also becoming cold now, and this is exaggerated out in the wilds, so be warned. It's easier to take something off if you're too hot than find something else to wear On Ilkley Moor Bar T'at.
and NOTE - Sunday rides CAN be a fair bit more strenuous than others if travelling away. The nature of most of the places we visit not only makes more physical demands on riders, but because they're so very enjoyable we tend to switch into attack mode for the juicy bits. But don't let that put you off! We still collect stragglers at intervals, and take decent rest halts. Just be sure to let us see you making an effort, otherwise, why did you come?
THURSDAYS YOU WILL NEED LIGHTS FOR ALL THURSDAY NIGHT RIDES.
RIDES IN THE OFFING - Grizedale Forest (Lake District), Holy Island, Dalby Forest (North Yorkshire), Wharncliffe Woods (Sheffield, Steve Peat's trail), Kielder again and a couple of the Seven Stanes trail centres in the Scottish Borders. Keep watching for fixtures!
New Rule! At least 3 riders for "proper" away days in 2008, and unless there are extenuating circumstances, only one per month max to keep them special. And one more - EVERYONE who comes out on a MidAirCrisis ride MUST WEAR A CYCLE HELMET. That's because we are PROPER Mountain Bikers. Safety First. Here's our pet Gollum riding his favourite trail:
(notice that even though he's about to fall with a VERY soft landing on Holey Island, he's got his helmet on...)
