Our treks (sorry!) began about 9 years ago when I was invited by Colin to tackle a Coast-to-Coast ride with a squad of his mates. He dragged me to the local MTB emporium where I got my eye on a luverly little mover just on the edge of my budget of £250. It was a green metallic Univega hardtail. Enter PC World-type Sales Person. "Nah, nah sir. That one's much too small for you." (He lied, but fool with cash believed him). "This one's your size..." He led me over to another Univega, a Flyte 730, all silver and shiny. This one had extra stickers on it with 27 speed LX and semi-slicks and "fantastically powerful" Promax V-brakes. I couldn't reach the seat. Bye-bye 500 squid, hello overdraft.
